Social media doesn’t have anything to do with business!
Hey buddy... didn’t anyone tell you that 1999 is over and social media is one of the fastest growing ways to reach new markets for businesses?
Social media has gained tremendous momentum and continues to do so at an amazing rate.
Just a few years ago Facebook ads didn't even exist. And a few years before that Facebook didn't exist.
Facebook can now be a terrific traffic channel for most businesses.
Twitter is a great way to distribute content and content introduces people to your business. First you have to make people aware that you exist and this is a great way to get that ball rolling.
Pinterest is on fire. A few years ago we would’ve thought that it was silly to have a search engine that worked off of pictures... but here it is and it works.
LinkedIn is a great way for certain businesses to connect with their markets.
Social Media is Here to Stay
Great marketers think of ways to reach people where they “hang out” and social media has more people hanging out than you can shake a stick at.
You don't have to advertise in these unique search engines to benefit from them.
Add Facebook posts daily and two would be better. Sometimes boost a post to get some more action. Don’t feel like everything that you post has to be about your business. Sometimes a funny piece of content is successful at getting people to notice you. Don’t use the same style of post all the time.
Twitter gets content out there fast so jump in and use it. Content is a great way to introduce people to your business.
A tip for Twitter - write a very useful blog post and tweet it. Use a # with a keyword in the post. As an example if we did a post about social media marketing after the post we would put #socialmediamarketing. You’ll be amazed how many people actually see it and respond. Before you know it people are following your business.
LinkedIn enables you to do something similar to both Facebook and Twitter but it’s more focused on business people. So share a blog post the same way we talked about for Twitter or post something like you would on Facebook but make it about business.
Good marketers use the social success cycle and it consists of 4 sections:
- Social listening
- Social influencing
- Social networking
- Social selling
Each of these sections of the cycle has a specific purpose and you should use each well in order to grow your business and to protect your brands reputation.
Social listening is where you listen to see what people are saying about you online. It’s a great idea to pay attention to customer service issues that surface and handle them quickly and professionally. Everyone has customer service issues occasionally so that’s not a problem. How you handle them can make or break you. Listening will also give you great insight as to product development or sales opportunities too.
Social influencing enables you to establish a little authority by sharing pertinent content that illustrates your expertise. This can increase engagement with your audience too.
Social networking can help you connect with other experts in your industry and can bring more great content to your social media and may lead to business opportunities.
Social selling... well, that's pretty self explanatory. This section helps you generate leads and sales.
