Dental SEO Tips

Which SEO tips for marketing your dental practice will bring in new patients in this day and age? There are almost as many ways of marketing your dental practice as patients are waiting to be marketed to. At the end of the day, if your website isn’t bringing you a higher caseload, what good is it doing for you?

Here are some tried and proven SEO tips we keep in mind when creating successful campaigns for the practices we help.

  1. Focus on Going Organic

Getting found in the “organic” section of Google - meaning the actual search results, not in the ads - is your best long-term investment into your practice’s marketing strategy. You don’t get charged every time someone clicks on you or every time they see your name. Your site will have earned the right to be found there every time a potential patient searches for a keyword you’ve targeted. You can always supplement this traffic by buying keywords with pay-per-click advertising (PPC) and other avenues, but a solid organic presence is worth its weight in gold.

  2. Long-Tail Search Terms

Think about it - what is the competition like for the term “dentist” in your area? Forget how many dentists there are in your area - how many WEBSITES are out there that have the word dentist on it? They might be written for dentists, to dentists, by dentists, or about dentists. Rather than fight with the sharks for the seemingly obvious bait, get smart about your SEO strategy. Flesh out your site with content about long-tail search terms that soon-to-be patients are out there searching for. Maybe it’s a specific teeth whitening procedure or a particular tooth pain that’s rather common. There is less competition for longer search terms, and often those who are actually close to making a decision or making a purchase are the ones behind those long-tail keywords. Use a keyword research tool to pick the terms you can dominate, and put out some high-value content on those subjects to start with.

When building out SEO campaigns for doctors, we always recommend ongoing content that largely focuses on long-tail search terms, as these pages tend to bring in some of the best leads for our clients.

  3. Is Your Practice Listed with Google & the Local Directories?

When you have a local business presence on Google, you can show up in the local listings, which often come up above the listings themselves and are very prominent. Asking current or former patients to leave a review on Google can also help - those with lots of positive reviews earn more trust not just with the end user, but with Google, too.

  4. Keep Adding Content

At the end of the day, what’s going to go the farthest towards earning you those coveted top spots for the most keywords in your area is going to be content. This can be added on an ongoing basis through the implementation of a blog. Blogs are a great place to add articles on those long-tail keywords we mentioned above. You want at least 10-20 pages of content on your website when you’re first starting out, but you can build that up into the hundreds over time. Going into detail on various dental problems, procedures, new techniques, and specific questions you get asked by patients can keep your blog full for months and years to come. More content for the search engines to read and promote can only help bring more eyeballs to your site!
